Hello!

Why we exist

Hello and welcome! I'm Claire; founder of Empowered in Work Community Interest Company.

We are a non profit organisation based in Wales (UK) with a combined experience of over 35 years working within the additional learning needs (ALN) sector (a term in Wales previously known as Special Educational Needs and Learning Disabilities).

Throughout our careers, we've had the privilege of working with many talented children and young people with ALN who share the same aspirations as everyone else — to find meaningful work! And we are confident that with early help they can not only meet but exceed the skill requirements that many employers are struggling to find in today’s workforce, and can become invaluable assets in roles where recruitment and retention are critical challenges.

Why we exist

We exist to bridge the gap between ambition and opportunity!

Our mission is to inspire and empower children and young people with ALN to recognise their potential and envision a future full of possibilities.

By engaging early, we can ignite curiosity and raise awareness about the diverse career paths available, alongside the support needed to help them succeed.

We achieve this by partnering with schools, employers, the third sector, and local government to implement early planning initiatives.

These initiatives give young people with ALN in Wales the best chance to thrive in their careers while providing employers access to a motivated and skilled talent pool that can help drive their businesses forward.
